Layout Design
101 - by Craig Brantley
There
are various details to consider in a model railroad layout design, from
track plan to benchwork, room utilization
to access and duck-unders, scenery and
backdrops. If you are thinking about
building a layout or already have one
and considering changes, this clinic will touch on the initial design and
options.

A Bridge Too Far -
by Frolin
Marek
We
all want to get that picture of a train crossing a bridge or trestle. Sometimes it takes a day, back roads,
hiking,
even crossing a mountain stream, just to get to the location. Now do this in the Colorado
mountains. This will be
a photo tour of the trek, the scenery, the adventure, and luckily of trains
on that trestle.

SAMRA has invited us
to attend an ‘Operating Session’
after the lunch break. Crew Positions are limited !
|
An Operating Session is not just “running
trains” but a formal activity of
moving freight cars for a reason, from one point to another.
Crews will be assigned a train and given a Freight Manifest, which provides
the places to pick up and setup freight cars, while running
a Freight Train over their large club layout. Crew Positions are limited, and
reservations started at our last Social in June.
This is a 3 hour commitment, arrive
early and plan to stay until your job is done. The Session runs roughly from 1:30pm to
5pm.
If you are interested, email us now to see if they still have any positions
available.

Layout Tour (tentative) -
Southern Pacific Dalsa Cutoff by
Sharon Mainz
This HO
layout is based on the Southern Pacific’s Flatonia Subdivision, now called Dalsa Cutoff. The
layout is complete and has many details.
The layout features many scenes and details to study, from buildings to
bridges, a mid-size rail yard and service facilities. Lots to see!
The layout was featured in 2008 Great Model Railroads Annual. This layout is not open to the general
public – come to the Social for details.
