Northern Pacific Z8 steam locomotive by Barry Bogs
In the Summer of 2025, Barry started work on his next G scale, Standard Gauge, steam locomotive. This time it is a Northern Pacific Z8 engine, a large articulated 4-6-6-4 Challenger class, coal fired steam locomotive. This is true ‘G’ at 1/22.5 scale and runs on Gauge 3 trackage. This engine is being built using pictures and an O scale model, as no detailed plans were found.

Spring 2025 - the tender is built first (not many construction pictures) Summer 2025 - work is started on the new loco, with wheels being turned, chassis is built Fall 2025 - the long massive boiler and cab are built January 2026 - the boiler takes shape, domes and details added February 2026-a - lots more piping work on the boiler February 2026-b - work on the under side, running gear and back head details added February 16th, 2026 - the Z8 build is complete ! Now to paint
