May 11th, 2021 Test Running #7 and Tie Work |
Tuesday, May 11: Bob
and I went out to the trestle to finish up. I found another bad
tie that wouldn’t hold tie spikes the day before so I put one of my
spares in and attached it to the stringers. We than work on
putting the bolts in that held the 2x4 guards to the end of the ties.
(we took those out to ease the 2x4 enough to put the ties in)
We also had to loosen the track screws (spikes) near where we tried to
insert a tie as the new ties were full of moister and swelled compared
to the dry ones on the trestle. The trestle is 21 years old and
has held up fairly well. Anyhow, when I went to tighten up the
loose screws (spikes) I found another tie that wouldn’t hold the
spikes. Out it came along with the bolts for the guard rail
before my last spare went in. It got reattached and finally, I
put in new spikes for the rail. The trestle was ready for a test
train. Some shots of Adam and #7 on the trestle and #7 at Phelps, with a close up of the new plumbing that Adam and I did. - - Tom Click any picture to expand, then scroll thru the rest. Note: these were recievd in small format. |
